A coming and going

Day care center and cafeteria of the primary and special school in Munich, competition as part of Quivid Munich, 2016

The movements of the children through the central hall of the facility in the horizontal (corridor), the vertical (elevator), and the diagonal (stairs) form the structure for a pattern made up of colored spherical segments. Depending on the perspective of the beholder, very different geometrical structures are formed. As with patterned wallpaper, the colorful spherical segments now make the wall appear as a harmonious whole, although the large area can never be fully perceived due to the staircase, gallery and elevator shaft. The work represents a picture of the “coming and going” of children from different directions and levels, the daily grouping together and parting again.

325 spherical segments made of metal, powder-coated in red, dark red, light gray and black; D circle segment = 9 cm, H = 2.4 cm, assembly grid 36 cm
